The Kind of Coal

Coal is a carbon that is changed because there are a high pressure and temperature difference. That carbon then convert to coal that contain of carbon but mixed with material contains inside. Because of different contain on coal and different age of this coal so there are many name of coal.

Coal don’t just have heterogenic material contains, but also vary of materials. Kind of coal is classes by the age (rank), or of mineral contains (grade), the type of plant former (type) and the usage of that coal. Many of scientists classified of coal base on those different base but the most base use to classify of coal is base on the age of coal (rank).

Generally Coal Composition is classified as follows:

Peat:

Many of expert said that peat is not coal because still contain of free cellulose, but some says that peat is young coal. Contains of peat; Carbon = 62 – 64% (dmmf); Oxygen = 30% (dmmf).

Lignite:

Carbon contain = 64 – 75% (dmmf); Oxygen = 20 – 25% (dmmf)

Sub-bituminous:

Carbon contains = 75 – 83% (dmmf); Oxygen = 10 – 20% (dmmf)

Bituminous:

Carbon contains = 83 – 90% (dmmf); Oxygen = 5 – 15% (dmmf)

Semi-anthracite:

Carbon contains = 90 – 93% (dmmf)); Oxygen = 2 – 4% (dmmf)

Anthracite:

Carbon contains = 93%

The standard on using of coal is energy contain on coal, more carbon contain in coal, more energy source on that kind of coal.
